How to Enjoy the Last Days of Summer!

We open our eyes to a new day and new opportunities every time we wake up from our slumber. We can be so engaged with our day to day tasks that we don’t realize or acknowledge the movement of time. It can seem to stand still, but sometimes it can move in a flash. To me this year has just flown by! I can’t believe that there are only 3 more months until 2018! I feel like we just left the New Year’s Eve party.

Summer is almost over, and the familiar chill has returned to the air! If you’re anything like me, then you LOVE summer! I love the warmth coupled with the sunshine! Here are a few ways to capitalize on the short amount of time left for Summer as Fall knocks on our door!

Go to the Park

While the grass is still green and free from snow, head to the park! Whether you go to to relax or exercise, get out in the open and enjoy all that nature has to offer! Some parks have movie nights or game nights that might be on their last legs so check your with your local park and spend the night outside! You don’t have to remain local, national parks are a great place to spend the last few weekends of warmth and sunshine!

Have a Picnic

There’s just something about eating food outside that makes you feel so free and connected to nature. You can go to your local park or even set up in your backyard. Invite some friends or family, or be by yourself for some quiet time, and break some bread in nature. Remember to clean up behind yourself, and be kind to the animals and plants.

Go to the Beach

If you love sand and large bodies of outdoor water, head on over to the nearest or nicest beach to get your fix before it’s too late. You don’t even have to don a bathing suit to enjoy the beach, you can just dip your toes or lay on the sand.

Show them Legs

Even though you can wear all of your dresses, skirts and shorts during the winter with the appropriate additions, they’re so much better during the warmer months when you can let your legs breathe.

Go on a Cruise

You could go on a long cruise over the ocean or on a shorter cruise if you live by a lake or the coast. I know that in Chicago there are many lake cruises which could be a tour of the coast and the skyline, or meal-time cruises where you eat on the water. Give on a try before it gets too cold!

Go to a Rooftop Bar

Before the wind blows too chilly or the snow falls, head to your favorite rooftop bar to enjoy the drinks in the afternoon, evening or night air. If you don’t have a favorite, then go explore sooner rather than later.

Do I really need to say anything more about this? Just go grill those veggies or meat if you love the smoky char.

Throw a big end of summer she-bang and round out the summer surrounded by friends and family!

If you aren’t able to participate in any of these activities before the temperature plummets, don’t fret! Summer will be here again in a few short months!

What will you be doing to enjoy the last few days of summer? Let me know below  🙂

Be happy and healthy!

Thrifting in my Closet: 3 Summer Dresses – Same style, different patterns

Hello my beautiful friends! I started a series a while back where I find clothes that I love in my closet to feature instead of buying new items in an effort to curb my spending habit.

If you love shopping and clothes as much as I do, you know the struggle! O.o

Anyhoo, I dove into my closet and here’s what I found 🙂

A few years ago I went to a end of year Old Navy sale and went ham! It was such an amazing sale; a thing of dreams. p.s. Old Navy and Gap are my OG favs.

I love these simple cami dresses that I can throw on and go, so much so I bought 3 different patterns. They are a bit on the short side because I am 5’11, but with a good dose of self-confidence, i’ll rock these bad boys any day (except when it’s windy lol). Also, shout out to my strapless bra for always having my back.

I usually don’t do too much when styling them. A simple bucket bag, my pearl knobs and some sandals or keds depending on my pedicure situation.

DIY Simple Beautiful Wall Art

Hi folks! Today I want to share 3 simple and beautiful DIY art pieces you can make at home, at school, or work, by yourself or with your kids through a picture tutorial! I choose a bear outline for my photos, but you can choose any outline that speaks to you, whether animal or object. ♥ ♥ ♥

Bear in the Shredder

1. Get a few magazine or newspaper sheets and cut them into thin strips.

2. Gather your materials

I was initially going to fill in the outline, but it was a little too technical for me so I filled in the background instead. I cut out the outline of the bear and will be using the outline and the outer piece of paper in another piece below.

3. Glue strips of magazine unto sheet of paper. Fit them together in a pattern or just a mash-up.

4. Add a border if you would like or just bring the magazine strips to the edge of the paper.

I added a black sheet of construction paper to the back for added umph 🙂

Bear Wave

I picked a page that was interesting and spoke to me and fit within the bear outline.

Added the paper left over from cutting out the above bear outline to the magazine page. Boom!

Golden Man in the Mountain

I found a picture of mountains and a small golden man. I cut him to fit the curve of the mountain and added a border.

Be happy, healthy and get your creative juices flowing!

Beat The Summer Heat!

My friends! Summer has been knocking for days, and now it has finally broken into our lives. I personally love summer! The warmth, the sunshine, the flowers and green grass, the beach all elevate my spirit!

As someone who is normally categorized as “plus size”, my love for the heat comes with a few troubles which can be easily resolved with a few tricks and a little more effort.

Sunscreen and Face Mist

I’m sure we’ve all heard the saying “Black don’t crack”, but we do burn! No matter the shade of your skin, Sunscreen is always a good idea when you are being exposed to the sun for any stretch of time! You can purchase one from the store or make your own depending on the coverage needed!

It is also super important to keep your skin hydrated because the heat will suck the moisture from your skin and leave you dry and crispy! Not a good look! You can make your own face mist with water, cucumber, vitamin E and some essential oils if you’d like or buy one. When you feel the heat on your face, spritz away to your heart’s desire!

Chub Rub Away

Chub Rub is the rubbing, and subsequent chafing, of thighs against each another while walking, running or during any period of activity.

This applies to anyone who doesn’t have a thigh gap, but instead has thighs that love to stay in close contact. There are many options out there to beat the chafe for smooth gliding. There are bands which can be worn around the thigh called Bandelettes or Thigh Bands to act as a barrier. Some people use Baby Powder even though it rubs off very easily plus it makes everything white or speckled, or deodorant which can also rub off easily. Others preach about Gold Bond Friction Defense Stick, BodyGlide For Her or Monistat Chafing Relief. Try them out, and see which works best for you!

Sweaty Buns

Sweating is natural and necessary for normal body functioning. When you add more heat, your body will sweat more in an effort to cool your body down. In those areas not usually exposed to air like under your bust and your bum, the sweat will take a longer time to dry. Bum sweat is no joke! Unfortunately I have no hacks for this one. I just wear mostly cotton and breezy clothing, and accept that sometimes I sweat buckets and it’s okay!

Cold-ish Showers

cold shower

It seems a little obvious that you would take cold showers during the hot months, but some people like hot showers. A hot shower now and then is good for relaxing and having a bit of a spa day, but colder showers are a must for me! Not too cold, but a few notches above warm to bring my body temperature down without being too drastic.

Pit Refresh

With more heat, comes more sweat, and with more sweat comes higher potential for potent pit odor. Feeling sticky from sweat plus being a little smelly makes me want to run into the shower. Take frequent showers, and some deodorant, whether natural or traditional, whichever works for you, to keep you smelling fresh and clean.

Cool Clothing

I don’t know about you, but I love wearing dresses and skirts in the summer! I love feeling free, so I try to stay away from jeans and other heavy, un-breathable materials, especially polyester. Over the years I have grown to love and accept this vessel which carries my consciousness and soul. So if I need to wear a pair of shorts and a tank top to be comfortable, I will wear it! Sometimes we need to get out of our heads and do what is practical and makes us happy!

Beach If You Wanna Beach

I grew up on a tropical island, but I didn’t take advantage of the beach as much as I should have. Now that I am older, Thank God I live close to a lake so I can beach as much as I wanna beach! If you’re not confident enough or comfortable, then don’t force yourself, but continuously work on yourself to get to a point of self-acceptance and self love!

Enjoy the summer my loves!!

Best Rompers and Jumpsuits for Frolicking in the Summer Sun

At the start of every warm season, I resolve to be more comfortable in my own skin. I have learnt, and am in some ways still learning, to love my body and be comfortable in my own skin.635921501148567896926053572_Summer (5)

I don’t know about you, but I am all for easy and effortless comfort. I love when I can throw on an outfit in a jiffy and look well put together with minimal effort. What’s easier than a jumpsuit or a romper? Maybe a dress, but that’s an post for a different day. 🙂

Here are a few options out there right now that you can snag to help you get dressed in a rush, or even for a special occasion, and be stylishly comfortable.

When Victoria Beckham’s collection with target dropped, I was very excited because the line was at target, the holy place, and it also catered to the plus size community. This little orange romper number caught my eye, and I feel in love! Plus this is on sale for $24.50!

I love a good floral print! This Torrid button front romper is just that! It is on the expensive side at $58.90, but it is beautiful.

I am clearly loving floral, because I also love this Rainbow off shoulder romper. This showstopper is only $19.99!

I love anything blue because it compliments my skin tone beautifully. This off shoulder crochet Charlotte Russe romper comes in at $19.99, and is a must have.

Now for a standout Asos curve bandeau jumpsuit that can take you from day to night or from casual to formal depending on accessories and styling. Take this home for $40.

We all know that Old Navy has a special place in my heart, so of course I love this embroidered tencel romper which is on sale for $18 right now!

This baby definitely came home with me! This linen tie belt jumpsuit is easy summer living, and I love it! Plus, it’s only $19.95 at the moment.

DIY From Can to Beautiful Craft

From as early as I can remember, I have been helping my mom create crafts and art projects for her classrooms. All throughout her career she taught high school English and Math, but she now teaches an adult special education class. Instead of making mostly educational charts and dioramas, we’re now engaged in more fun and crafty projects for her students.

The latest little project of ours is to create some vases that also can double as pencil holders. She created the base, I added the final touches and viola!

  • Burlap
  • Colored Mesh
  • Glue
  • Cans
  • Scissors

How to:

  1. Collect materials
  2. Measure and cut burlap to fit can
  3. Glue burlap to can and add extra to the ends to keep it secure
  4. Measure and cut mesh to wrap around can
  5. Tie mesh around can and wrap to create a bow or other shapes

Add flowers or stationery to your liking! 🙂

Something New, Something Blue

So, I have a problem with buying clothes, but we won’t dwell on that right now.

Right now, we’ll have a little show and tell session. P.S. most of these things are blue 😉

 Off the Shoulder Embroidered Top

I’ve really gotten into off the shoulder trend. I found an amazing strapless bra (on sale!), and now I feel like I can take on the world! Honestly, get you a good strapless bra gurl! It’ll change your life!

This was from Ross and was only 9.99 … O.o

Lace Detail Top

I am an Old Navy girl through and through! While rummaging through the store, I found this beauty on the sale rack. I love the bright color that will just pop on my skin tone, and the beautiful lace work!

I love H&M for cheap basics. This was less than 10 bucks , and I love the material at the top.

Bell Sleeve Top

Found this gem in Kohls over the weekend. It’s not a standout top, but it’s comfortable, cool and cute for the summer!

Comfy Shoes

Got these beauts for 19.99 from Ross. These Keds are sooo comfy! I have worn them everyday since I bought them. Love!
